  • Bristol researchers work to secure next generation chip-card payment technology 4 November 2013 Current chip technology used for purchasing items via credit and debit cards in shops was developed in the mid-1990s. EMVCo, the standard body which manages, maintains and advances EMV Specifications, is in the process of designing the next generation payment technology to meet long-term industry requirements. The activity will establish a common, robust technology platform for supporting contact and contactless/mobile interfaces for both online and offline transactions.
  • £1.7 million awarded to tackle domestic violence in low and middle-income countries 6 July 2018 Professor Gene Feder at the University of Bristol’s Centre for Academic Primary Care has been awarded £1.7 million by the National Institute for Health Research to fund a Global Health Group for research into health systems responses to violence against women in Palestine, Brazil, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

  • £1.8million for new research on Italian cultures and the study of Modern Languages 18 September 2013 A new research project looking at how modern Italian culture has developed around the world has been awarded £1.8million by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). From the insights it develops into transnational Italian cultures, the project will forge a new framework for the discipline of Modern Languages as a whole.
