  • New exercise unveiled to help businesses in the fight against cyber attacks 8 March 2018 The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has unveiled an innovative new exercise that teaches business leaders how to protect their companies from cyber attacks. The resource, entitled 'Decisions and Disruptions', funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), was first developed by a group of academics, currently based at the University of Bristol, in partnership with the National Cyber Security Centre.
  • Bristol Vet student helps save newborn critically endangered lemur 30 April 2018 A University of Bristol MSc student who is also a zoo vet carried out a rare procedure with the help of keepers to save the life of a critically endangered new-born lemur at Wild Place Project in Bristol.
  • ‘Wiggling and jiggling’: new study helps explain how organisms can evolve to live at different temperatures 21 March 2018 The brilliant physicist Richard Feynman famously said that, in principle, biology can be explained by understanding the wiggling and jiggling of atoms. For the first time, new research from the University of Bristol, UK and the University of Waikoto, New Zealand explains how this ‘wiggling and jiggling’ of the atoms in enzymes – the proteins that make biological reactions happen – is ‘choreographed’ to make them work at a particular temperature.
  • Study reveals what factors influence young people's gambling habits 5 December 2019 A study has shown that regular weekly gamblers were more likely to be male and had developed habits and patterns of play by age 20. Factors such as the gambling habits of parents and social media use were also found to influence a young person's gambling activity. The in-depth longitudinal study by the University of Bristol's Children of the 90s was commissioned by GambleAware.
  • Bristol Vet School at the forefront of combatting antimicrobial resistance 28 April 2018 Researchers from the Bristol Veterinary School at the University of Bristol are leading the way with farmers to combat and change antimicrobial (AM) use on farms. Antimicrobial resistance - or AMR - is a global threat, with an estimated 700,000 people dying from resistant infections every year.
  • Bristol researchers use gene editing to improve red blood cell transfusion compatibility 27 April 2018 Synthetic biologists at the University of Bristol have succeeded in generating laboratory-made red blood cells with rare blood group types that could one day be used to help patients who cannot be matched with donor blood.
  • French Ambassador visits the South West Nuclear Hub 31 May 2018 The French Ambassador to the UK, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, visited the South West Nuclear Hub recently for the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between the University of Bristol and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (Arts et Métiers).
  • Being active reduces risk of prostate cancer 5 December 2019 Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK*, yet we still don't know all of its causes. The largest ever study to use genetics as a measurement for physical activity to look at its effect on prostate cancer, reveals that being more active reduces the risk of prostate cancer. Over 140,000 men were included in the study, of which, 80,000 had prostate cancer.
  • Cooling treatment improves survival without brain damage in later childhood 9 July 2014 The cooling of newborn babies suffering from perinatal asphyxia – a lack of oxygen at the time of birth – significantly increases their chance of survival without brain damage to later childhood (age six to seven years), according to a Medical Research Council (MRC) funded clinical trial by a team of researchers from the universities of Bristol, Oxford, Leeds, University College London, Imperial College London, Queen’s University Belfast and Æ··ïÂ¥rton University Hospital, London.
  • University and NTU Singapore to push the frontier in ageing innovations 23 October 2014 In the near future, smart wearable technologies will make it easier for the elderly to continue living independently, while enabling their children and caregivers to ensure their safety and daily health and well-being are properly monitored.
